The art of storytelling is inherently human.
For as long as humans have walked this earth, stories have been a way for them to make sense of their world, to pass down traditions and beliefs through generations, and to escape from painful realities into the realm of the imaginary where anything is possible.
Artificial Intelligence or Generative AI–we’ll call it AI for simplicity’s sake–cannot do this. AI stories are a patchwork of pieces taken from human writers who have never received any acknowledgement or compensation for their work. And while the words can be scraped by machines and pushed into a vaguely book-shaped piece of content, the heart of the story cannot. That connection between author and reader can’t be replicated, no matter how many billions of dollars are spent on research and development.
That’s saying nothing of the environmental impact of AI, but we think you get the idea.
At The Ink Pot, we sell books by humans for humans, and AI content–whether it be the words on the pages or the art on the cover–has no place on our shelves.
